Allen County coroner says missing 12-year-old Fort Wayne boy was shot in head

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Allen County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a 12-year-old boy who went missing earlier this week.

Authorities say Mario A. Gilmer Jr. of Fort Wayne was found near railroad tracks by the intersection of Hoagland Avenue and Melita Street, in Fort Wayne, on Monday at around 11:30 p.m. 

Mario Gilmer was the subject of a Public Safety Alert that was sent out to those in the Fort Wayne area Monday evening.

The coroner determined Mario's cause of death to be a gunshot wound of the head.

The manner of death is under investigation.

The incident remains under investigation authorities in Allen County.
