ANGOLA, Ind. (WFFT) -- The Trine softball team has been phenomenal all season long, but it's been the pitching staff that has helped the Thunder to where they are.
The Thunder are 38-4 on the season, and their pitchers have been the key to their success all season, throwing two perfect games and one no-hitter on the season. The Thunder pitchers boast a Div. III best 1.00 earned run average, which ranks second in all of NCAA behind Oklahoma's 0.88 team ERA.
Anna Koeppl, Debbie Hill and Alexis Michon combined to pitch 19 innings, allowing a run on six hits with 16 strikeouts in Trine's sweep of the regional last week.
Next up for the Thunder is the NCAA DIII Super Regional this weekend against Concordia University Wisconsin beginning Friday. The winner of the best-of-three series moves on to the DIII Women's College World Series.
