When temperatures are in the 70s you already need to be more cautious when going outside.Â
Staying hydrated is not the only way to prevent overheating.
Sports dietician Sami Kauffman says there are extra steps you should be taking.
"If they're outside for more than an hour they want to start using sports drinks so they can make sure they can hold on to extra fluid... they can stay hydrated and not have any water belly issue from too much fluid. They also want to make sure they're adding extra salt to their diet and getting some carbohydrates to help with that fuel. Because cooling themselves off is going to take a little fuel than they're used to," Kauffman said.
If you take these extra precautions you will not only be able to be outside longer.
You'll be able to prevent exercise related injuries such as cramping.
Also remember that when exercising to take breaks and make sure you have been hydrating throughout the day.
You can also talk to your doctor or dietician about other ways to stay hydrated.
