FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- The Allen County Prosecutor says a Fort Wayne Police officer was justified when he shot and killed an armed man in November.
Officer Andrew M. Fry shot 18-year-old Wyatt Beckler near Poplar Street on Nov. 2.
Police said at the time that Fry responded to a call from a person who said a man had a gun. A video released by police on Friday shows Beckler called the police on himself.
They say they found Beckler nearby on Hoagland Avenue, but he refused to follow instructions and pulled out a weapon.
That's when police say Fry shot Beckler. He later died at a local hospital.
Indiana State Police and Fort Wayne Police investigated the shooting.
A statement released by Prosecuting Attorney Michael McAlexander says he has determined there is no evidence of criminal liability.
"The officer was justified in using force, as he reasonably believed that force was necessary to prevent serious bodily injury or death to himself and/or citizens of this community," the statement said.
