hunter petroviak.thanks for joinging us.schools across indiana are splitting "19 million" dollars to help improve safety.some schools in the area are questioning how the school security grant is awarded because amounts vary quite a bit.fox 55's cody butler is live outside carroll high school with more on that.cody? northwest allen county schools is one of the lucky districts ... getting nearly 100- thousand dollars of the school security grant.most that money will go toward adding a fourth school resource officer here at the carroll high school freshman center. 429 public ... private and charter schools in indiana are splitting 19 million dollars law makers set aside to improve school safety. northwest allen county schools is one of a handful of districts in northeast indiana getting 100-thousand dollars from the school safety grant program.that's doubled from last year. under state law ... schools must use that money in certain ares ... like school resource officers and security equipment.this year ... lawmakers made an extra 5 million dollars available and expanded what the grant can pay to include training and support services.northwest allen ... and 267 other schools plan to use the money for school resource officers. jay school corporation is also using the money for an s-r-o. but it is only getting 25- thousand dollars ... which is half from the year before. superintendent jeremy gulley says now he's in a bind while implementing that plan. this year ... schools asked for 4-point-8 million dollars more than what was available. the department of homeland security says to be fair ... it made schools prioritize their needs.this way every school requesting money had their number one priority covered. 3 gulley tells me he wouldn't mind seeing the grant distributed like state education funds.that ties a dollar amount to each student. reporting live ... cody butler ... fox 55
