people. in just 46 days you will decide who will appear on the ballot in november.the primary for municipal elections is may 7th and all elected offices in fort wayne are up for grabs. tonight fox 55's cody butler introduces you to two republican candidates looking to represent the northwest part of town. republican voters in northwest fort wayne will have a choice on who they want to represent them on fort wayne's city council.tom didier is seeking a fifth term.mike thomas is hoping to beat him in may. thomas says he knows the city needs to spend money fix infrastructure ... such as water mains.but says there has to be a different way to pay for the improvements. the investment started about 10 years ago with building parkview field.at the time ... the decision was controversial ... but one councilman didier supported to help launch the growth of downtown. and to keep people here ... they need to stay safe.the fort wayne police department says the city's crime rate was down last year ... but the violent crime was up.didier says his main concern is tackling the drug issue in his district ... one of the main reasons for bringing the city's chronic commercial property ordinance to the table.thomas says he feels that more police officers need to be on the streets ... working with partners and do more community policing. the deadline to register to vote in the primary is april 9th.primary day is may 7th.in fort wayne ... cody butler ... fox 55 news.
