Euell A. Wilson Center holds luncheon to benefit youth and families

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Euell A. Wilson's legacy lives on in Fort Wayne. He was a standout athlete at Bishop Dwenger High School. Although he died at the age of 19, his mission to help children and teens is carried out at the Euell A. Wilson Center.

a local group is working to inspire others in the community to step up and become involved in the lives of the youth here in fort wayne.fox 55's jentill neal talked to students who are making strides toward success with their help. euell a. wilson's legacy lives on in fort wayne. he was a standout athlete at bishop dwenger high school. although he died at the age of nineteen, his mission to help children and teens is carried out at the euell a. wilson center.>:31-:43"i've been going to the euell a. wilson center for about three years now.">1:33-1:34"when you go to the center, i feel like it's like home sometimes."today the ninth annual courageous luncheon highlighted the various programs and benefits the center offers like educational help, food, performing arts and spiritual development. it turned rayshanti williams' life around. she was confined to a wheelchair back in 2012 after an accident, but today she's walking and well. and with the money raised today it'll help more in the community like her who are faced with struggles.> :25-:53"in 2012, i got in a really bad car accident, and i didn't know how to read and all that other stuff. i went to this program that's called project reads. i really didn't like reading because i couldn't figure it out so once i took that class, it helped." <jentill "let love reign has been their motto for years for the center and each year, they've made it their goal to expand on that."2:33-2:55"if you're going to do what's good for the community you're going to need community help because what we do effects everybody and so when we team up together, two can do better than one. so we know there's strength in numbers and more importantly we know the strength when you have the same mission and purpose." right now their latest project is operating a new gym facility on wabash street so they can expand their programming for children and families.in fort wayne, jentill neal fox 55 news. if you'd like to donate to the center or toward the gym, we have a link to how to do that on our website
