streets are going to be a little smoother and sidewalks will become more leveled. that's because a record breaking thirty one million dollars will be spent on neighborhood improvements this year.fox 55's jentill neal talked to people who live in the pettit- rudisill neighborhood who say it's desperately needed. the petitt- rudisill neighborhood is getting a makeover after many years of bumpy streets, unleveled sidewalks, and difficult alleys to ride through.> 1:21-1:45"rudisill has been re-done a number of times but some of these other sidewalks are just deteriorating so badly, and the side walks heve because of the old trees the roots cause the sidewalks to heve. the concrete portions don't match anymore which causes a trip hazard." sidewalks and streets many of the residents use everyday. more than fifty blocks of resurfacing will take place this summer.mckinnie and hanna street will also be resurfaced. >:49-:54"when you talk about petitt rudisill you've got areas in the neighborhood that have been neglected for a very long time."the neighborhood has nearly 2,000 homes, and the city wants to make getting around safer.>1:31-1:53"it enhances their property values, quality of life, and one of the things we want to address in this community is we want to have a transportatio n network that addresses all modes not just regular traffic so if you can live in your home and walk over to the grocery store or to a shopping center instead of driving everywhere you go, i think that's a good thing for a community."the petitt rudisill neighborhood will be one of the 190 neighborhoods that will be getting revamped.> 1:12-1:39"when potential employers come in to our community or families come in to determine whether or not this is an appropriate place for them to call home one of the things they look at is the condition of our streets, our curbs, our sidewalks and other roadways and if it's not appealing to them, the probability of calling this home is probably pretty low so it's terribly important to do that with this infrastructure." with this year's funding, the city invested 130 million in neighborhoods since 2014.in fort wayne, jentill neal fox 55 news
