Angola, Ind. (WFFT) – The Greensboro Swarm (11-9) defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (9-10), 110-104, in the Mad Ants’ first home game away from the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in team history. Playing at the MTI Center on the campus of Trine University, Fort Wayne took a 10-point lead into the locker room, but could not hold on.
Sunday night was a sellout-crowd of 2,651.
The fast start wasn’t enough for Fort Wayne, as they scored just 37 points in the second half after scoring 37 in the 2nd quarter.
Greensboro shot over 52 percent from the field in the victory, despite knocking down just 24 percent of its three-point attempts. Five different Swarm players scored at least points in the winning effort.
Charlotte Hornets assignee Dwayne Bacon scored 22 points and added eight rebounds to lead Greensboro. Jaylen Barford chipped in 20 points off the bench in his return to action and Chinanu Onuaku added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Joe Chealey and J.P. Macura also scored in double figures for the Swarm, helping the team continue its torrid pace, winning seven game in eight tries.
Omari Johnson got off to a hot start for Fort Wayne, scoring 16 points in the first half on the way to a 22-point performance to lead the Mad Ants off the bench. Rob Gray also added 17 points off the bench.
Alize Johnson contributed another double-double, with 15 points and 18 rebounds, in the losing effort for the Mad Ants.
Fort Wayne will travel east after the New Year, taking on Westchester on Wednesday. Greensboro will stay on the road for one more game, as they take on Windy City on New Year’s Day.
