Leaders of the Homestead High School student section have issued an apology after the bleachers at Bishop Dwenger were damaged Friday night during a rivalry football game.

The apology comes amid a Fort Wayne Police investigation into several bent and missing plates that hold the bleachers together. Police say an 8-foot section of the railing was missing completely and that several several nuts and bolts were removed, leaving the section wobbly.

Police say they also found several burnt smear marks in the front row. Investigators say they're tracking several #BreakTheBleachers posts on social media as part of the active investigation.

Homestead High Principal Park Ginder released this statement about the damage.

“Homestead High School administrators are in contact with school officials at Bishop Dwenger High School after reports of bleacher damage surfaced following Friday’s football game. We continue to work with Dwenger staff as the investigation continues," Ginder wrote.

On Sunday a Twitter account for the Homestead student section released a statement apologizing for "shining a bad light on our school and community."

The statement, signed by the Homestead Student Section Leaders, says in full:

"To the community of Bishop Dwenger, our actions this past Friday night September 13th, were uncalled for, disrespectful, and immature. We want to be a better represtantion of Homestead moving forward. We would also like to apologize to Homestead's parents and the community for shining a bad light on our school and community. We would also like to apologize for treating the situation badly and not showing the leadership abilities the school deserves. Finally, we would like to apologize to the football program for taking away from the win, and the efforts you guys put in day in and day out."
