FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Final unofficial results for the Indiana Primary Election are in, and The Allen County Election Board said it will be about another week before those results become official.
“Instead of doing mostly machine voting we did mostly mail-in voting, so it was a very different process,” said Beth Dlug, Allen County Director of Elections. “Over the next week or so we will be checking, and double-checking, our numbers to make sure they are correct.”
Dlug said Allen County voters should keep up with the Democratic and Republican national conventions to stay informed on what they will see on their ballots come November.
“The ballot will include some races that actually weren’t on their primary ballot, and some of those will be determined at conventions this summer,” Dlug said. “Like the attorney general race, those will be included along with the presidential and U.S. representative races on the federal side, all the state offices, as well as those local offices.”
While COVID-19 did complicate the voting process for the election board, Dlug said they have been able to use it as a learning experience for more efficient voting in the future.
“We were able to spread that all out and keep everybody a little bit safer during this pandemic,” Dlug said. “So we're really grateful for the community for coming together and getting this done with us.”
