FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — April was very active for tornadoes across the country, but May has been different.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, 351 tornadoes tore across the country in April.
So far in May, there have been 128 tornado reports.
Texas tops the list with 20 tornadoes.
Illinois comes in second place with 13 tornadoes in the last 28 days.
The most active day was May 23, when 27 tornadoes ripped across the country.
These are all preliminary numbers, which means some of the reports may be from the same tornado.
Only 49 tornadoes have been confirmed through May 25, according to a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center.
The last time there were less than 100 confirmed tornadoes in May was in 1970.

In 2019, the U.S. had 506 tornadoes in May.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, May tends to be the most active month for tornadoes.
The area with the greatest risk of seeing a tornado in May ranges from northern Texas to southwestern Iowa, according to USTornadoes.com.
So far this month, Indiana has not had a tornado.
Strong storms have produced multiple hail and wind reports.
In April 2020, 12 tornadoes touched down in the southern half of Indiana.
