FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — As expected, a wintry system brought a late season wet snow to the Midwest.
The precipitation initially started off as a cold rain mixed with a few snowflakes near the middle of the day Tuesday.
By the middle of the afternoon, it transitioned to wet, heavy snow.
That transition happened about an hour earlier than expected which resulted in slightly higher snowfall totals.
In general, our prediction of 2 to 4 inches of snowfall for most of the area with lower totals near Michigan was the most accurate.
The Fort Wayne International Airport registered a total of 4.2” of snowfall for Tuesday.
This shattered the previous record of .2” set in 1953.
This snowfall places April 2021 as the 8th snowiest on record.
