FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Parts of the United States are starting to see the leaves change colors as cooler temperatures set in.
SmokyMountains.com created a fall foliage prediction map this year.
This tool was designed to help people see when the best fall colors will happen in their area.
The map gathers its data from seasonal forecasts and historical data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
From this data, it creates a prediction for the moment when peak fall color will happen in each county across the continental United States.
You can view the map here.
According to the map, northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are going to start seeing patchy spots of fall color starting the week of September 28, 2020.
Peak fall foliage typically occurs in mid to late October for our region.
There are still a few weeks before peak color occurs.
By the middle of November, the fall foliage will be past peak and the leaves will likely start falling off the trees.
