FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — You might think a penny weighs a bit, but for WOWO Radio, pennies pack a lot of power for the holiday season.
The station kicked off its annual "Radio-thon" on Dec. 12 and 13, a campaign that urges the Fort Wayne community to give a donation via call or text.
Within just two days, WOWO Radio collected more than $100,000 for their recipient organization -- Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
More than 40 volunteers, supplied from Cancer Services, dedicated 13-hour shifts back to back to surpass their $100,000 mark.
That's exactly what they did,championing the goal at $100,371.
The financial donations will sustain Cancer Services initiatives such as providing wigs for patients who've lost their hair or providing transportation to doctors' appointments.
Though aimed at helping youth cancer patients, Penny Pitch will help a child's overall family endure the diagnosis process with more attention and assistance.
WOWO Radio's Penny Pitch Campaign will last through Dec. 31.
