JEFFERSON, Ind. (WFFT) -- Two teens were airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition tonight after a head-on crash in Huntington County.

The crash happened at 4:41 p.m. on State Road 218, just east of County Road 300 west.

Huntington County Sheriff's deputies say 17-year-old Luv Kumar Chohan of Marion was heading east on State Road 218 behind two cars.

Deputies say Chohan and the car in front of her both moved into the westbound lane to pass a third, slower car.

Deputies say the first car passed the slower car but Chohan's vehicle didn't get over in time, causing it to strike a westbound vehicle head-on.

Deputies say 19-year-old Katelyn Spangler of Warren was driving the car westbound.

The car immediately caught fire.

Investigators say the driver of the car that was passed immediately attempted to resuce Spangler with the help of first responders.

Both Chohan and Spangler were taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
