FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- Update: DeeDee Barnett was back in court Thursday for a trial setting.
Barnett, 38, is accused of shooting and killing Brian Lowe, Jr, 31, on Lake Avenue back in October.
He's facing a murder charge and a firearm violation.
Barnett's jury trial was set for April tenth, eleventh, and twelth at the Allen County Courthouse. He also has a pretrial hearing on February thirteenth.
A peaceful ending to an afternoon standoff for the Fort Wayne Police Department.
"I just saw the police flying over here, they have the door bangers out and they surrounded a house out here," said witness Tashiena Fernanders.
It all started around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when police responded to Spy Run Avenue and State Boulevard after reports of a shooting.
"When we arrived we found a victim inside the automobile that was driven there by a friend," said Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Michael Joyner.
Investigators say the victim was sitting in a car with his friend near his home on Lake Avenue when he was shot. They say the friend panicked and drove off, calling police as he drove.
"That victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition," said Joyner.
Police then went to the victim's home and investigated the crime scene. While they were at that scene, they received information that took them to a home on Gladstone Drive on the southeast side. Moments after clearing that scene, they went to a home a few blocks away on Winter Street after a tip from a witness.
"We set up a perimeter on the house. We were able to establish a telephone call inside, it was one of the two individuals that were found inside the house."
Those two people then surrendered and were taken into custody. The person of interest was then taken in for questioning.
Joyner says he's glad the standoff ended without any injuries.
"We did everything that they were trained to do, and we responded accordingly."
