FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – Household products many of us keep under our sink, in closets or in the garage, can present a hazard in our home. Special care is needed to dispose of these products.
The City’s Solid Waste Department and the Allen County Department of Environmental Management (ACDEM) are teaming up to add six Tox-Away Saturday dates, this year.
The added days have been popular with nearly 20,000 pounds of household hazardous waste and 1,300 gallons of paint were dropped off on three Saturday events, this year.
The next Tox-Away Saturday is on August 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the County’s household hazardous waste facility at 2260 Carroll Rd. There are signs on Lima Road that will direct you to the facility.
Typical items for disposal include:
- Automotive products
- Fire extinguishers
- Fluorescent light bulbs
- Household cleaners
- Pool chemicals
- Propane tanks
Disposal Fees and Weight Limits:
- 0-25 pounds - $5
- 26-50 pounds - $10
- Fire Extinguisher - $2
- Propane – $1 per pound
- 4-foot bulb - $1
- 8-foot bulb - $2
- Latex Paint - $2 per gallon
The next two Tox-Away Saturdays will be on September 7 and October 12.
