FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — A chase through Fort Wayne ended in two cars being totaled, injuries and an arrest on Monday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m. officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department tried to pull over a driver they believed to be a suspect in a homicide near the intersection of Bowser and Creighton avenues.
Police say the suspect refused to pull over and sped away from officers ensuing a chase.
FWPD says the suspect was able to get away from the first officer who was chasing him and a short time later another officer was able to relocate the driver.
Officer say the reckless driving of the suspect led to a crash after he allegedly ran the stop sign at the intersection of Robinwood Drive and McKinnie Avenue while going southbound very fast colliding with a police vehicle traveling east on McKinnie Avenue.
The police vehicle that was struck, was not a part of the pursuit when the collision took place.
FWPD says the officer who was hit had another person in side doing a ride-along.
The suspect was a male teenager, who had minor injuries, was taken to a local the hospital to be treated and then taken into custody.
The officer and a ride-along who were struck were also reported to have minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
Because the boy is a minor, his name will not be released, unless he is charge as an adult for any crime(s).
