FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Police say a man is in jail in connection to a weekend shooting that left one person dead in southeast Fort Wayne.
Police say 19-year-old Dakota J. Waudby is facing a preliminary murder charge in an early Sunday morning deadly shooting at an apartment complex in the 7900 block of Decatur Road.
Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a shooting just after 1 a.m. Sunday at 7915 Decatur Rd.
When police arrived, they found a man with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner's Office released the identity of the victim and his cause and manner of death Monday afternoon.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the shooting happened after an argument took place because Waudby confronted the victim about disrespecting his girlfriend, who was at the apartment with them prior to the shooting.
Then the victim allegedly punched Waudby and he retaliated by shooting him several times and reportedly told detectives he "blacked out."
Waudby currently is being held on no bond at the Allen County Jail for a 72-hour hold.
He is expected to make his court appearance Thursday morning.
