HAMILTON, Ind. (WFFT) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition after crashing in Steuben County Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after 5:15 p.m., Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Bellefontaine Road and Lane 101 Ball Lake in reference to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash.
Deputies say when arrived at the scene, 20-year-old Leah Fager of Nappanee was found in the road next to a crashed Harley Davidson FLH motorcycle.
Witnesses told deputies that Fager slowed down to avoid a collision with another vehicle and lost control on loose gravel causing her to crash the motorcycle.
Fager was the only person on the motorcycle at the time of the crash, deputies said.
Investigators say Fager was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and believe alcohol is a contributing factor.
Fager was transported via Samaritan helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition for immediate treatment of a possible head injury.
According to the sheriff's office, the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
