Arriving on the scene, Trooper’s located a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle off the road that crashed into a utility pole.
The motorcycle rider, identified as 42-year-old James C. “Curtis” Dameron of Wolcottville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say prior to the crash, Dameron was riding south on South West Fox Lake Road, just east of south Menges Road.
For an unknown reason, investigators say Dameron failed to negotiate a slight curve in the road.
Then police said, Dameron's motorcycle went down on its side and slid off the road.
Troopers said Dameron hit a guidewire prior to the motorcycle crashing into a utility pole.
Dameron was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.
Troopers said excessive speed was not believed to be a factor, but alcohol use is suspected.
Toxicology results are pending with the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
Dameron served as a reserve officer with the Wolcottville Town Marshall’s Office since 2012, but has been on administrative leave since July.
The crash incident remains under investigation by authorities in Steuben County.
