FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Many children across northeast Indiana had their first snow day of the year Thursday.
Fort Wayne Community Schools said this was the earliest snow day for them in more than 20 years.
FWCS spokeswoman Krista Stockman said transportation officials drive several roads throughout the morning to determine if the roads are safe for kids.
The decision to go on a two-hour delay is made by 6:00 a.m. and the decision to close school is made by 8:00 a.m.
However, some students didn't have the traditional snow day. That's because many schools, such as Southwest Allen County Schools, had an eLearning day.
This means students were required to complete assignments online, with teachers available to help as needed. Students won't have to make up the day.
FWCS will have a make-up day December 21.
