FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- Whether it's sliding in the street or slipping on the sidewalk, locals could be falling into a trap of paying a fine.
In one area, you could count on one hand how many residents took time to shovel.
"With us not really having the streets clear like they need to be cleared, it could turn into a serious injury or even something fatal," Rashon Morgan said.
"It's just been horrible and for someone that has to walk their pet in the middle of the street. That's very dangerous."
Because of situations like that, the city could be enforcing fines. You could be fined up to $2,500 if your home or place of business hasn't made an effort to clear the sidewalks, but the actual amount is determined by the city attorney. Chris Stabler couldn't believe it.
"I think it's them trying to prove a point. It's a scare tactic," he said.
These fines are real and Holly Pebley thinks they'll make people more willing to clear the area.
"I think it's a great idea...especially for the kids who walk to school, and I walk on the sidewalks," Pebley said.
If you want to keep your money in your pocket, you might want to grab a shovel now.
