FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - School is almost back in session for school districts across Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio.
DeKalb County Eastern Schools went back to class on Aug. 4 Huntington County Community Schools Corporation will be second to follow, with school beginning Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Staff will greet students with masks and make use of virtual opens for families choosing not to physically attend class.
The Southwest Allen County school board approved their revised reopening plan Tuesday night.
On top of the in-person and eSACS virtual school, the revised plan includes a new learning option for students.
The new option will put cameras and microphones inside grade six through twelve classrooms so students can learn from their teachers in real-time.
SACS Superintendent Phil Downs, says the reason they had to add the real-time option is due to community response about the number of dual credit students.
Downs explained "We’re one of the largest issuers of dual credit in the state of Indiana. We account for almost twenty percent of the duel credit given in the state, somewhere around 16, 17 percent, so it's a lot. It's a lot of our kids and that's why when we heard from the community it was definitely something that got our attention."

In East Allen County Schools on Tuesday night, the board approved one change to its reopening plan, which is redefining some of the language for virtual learning, to make guidance clearer.
All districts continue to emphasize the plans are fluid based on the COVID spread, but Downs says showing how they adapt is actually what they want students to see.
"We actually think we’re doing a great job of demonstrating our portrait of a graduate, what are the attributes we want our graduates to have. Well, they get to see the adults living those out as they watch us deal with the trials and tribulations of using technology," Downs said.
For both SACS and EACS, enrollment isn’t quite finished, but about twenty percent of students in SACS have chosen the virtual option and in EACS that number is about seventeen percent.
