FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The Allen County Sheriff's Department is investigating threats St. Joseph Hospital CEO Karen Fordham made against former Lutheran Health Network CEO Brian Bauer.

According to a police report, Fordham was in a meeting other administrators and said Bauer "should be shot and killed."

Fordham, who started her job at St. Joseph Hospital January 22, was talking about the lawsuit between LHN and Bauer.

An executive in the room told Bauer that Fordham said "The headline made it seem like he won, we won. Our whole plan was to show IU Health what he did while working for us, who is to say he won't do it to them? He should be shot and killed for what he did."

Bauer is working with IU Health to bring that network to Fort Wayne.

LHN fired him in June after a group of doctors tried to buy the network from its corporate owners, Community Health Systems.

CHS is suing Bauer for his involvement with IU Health.

In a ruling on Feburary 26, a judge ordered Bauer to return secrets about LHN, but allowed him to stay with IU Health.

According the report, CHS says Fordham's comments were inappropriate for the workplace and she was told those comments are unacceptable at the Lutheran Health Network.

In the reporter, Bauer said this incident has "gone too far."

He goes on to say he doesn't feel his family is safe not knowing if the threats will be carried out.

LHN spokesman Geoff Thomas released the following statement to FOX 55 Monday.

"An off-the-cuff, regrettable comment was made in a small group of administrative staff at St. Joseph Hospital recently and subsequently reported to our compliance line. We take reports to the compliance hotline very seriously. The incident was immediately reviewed and addressed accordingly."

According to the complaint, CHS said there is not credible threat against Bauer.
