FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — A police chase ended in a collision and multiple injuries Thursday afternoon.
The Fort Wayne Police Department said shortly after 3 p.m. an officer who was in the area of Franke Park on Sherman Boulevard when he saw a man jump out of a moving car at that location.
Police said the man who jumped out began yelling at the officer that the man driving the car was drunk and to “go get him.”
Police say they tried to pull the driver over shortly, but they said the car slowed down as if he was going to stop and then drove off.
FWPD said they were lead on a short chase, which didn't last a minute, as the car drove south on Wells Street and approached State Boulevard.
Police said the officer who was about a block behind the suspect saw the driver run a red light.
A car that was turning into the intersection was hit by the suspects car.
Both drivers were pulled from their vehicles by Fort Wayne Fire Department and were sent to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The intersection of State and Wells was closed for a few hours after the crash.
No arrests have been made at this time.
FWPD says the incident remains under investigation.
