Police asking for public's help identifying robbery suspect

Police said just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday they were called to the Belmont Beverage on east Pettit Avenue. The 911 caller was taking a deposit to the bank when he was approached by the suspect who was armed with a taser.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)- Police in Fort Wayne need your help identifying a suspect in a robbery Tuesday afternoon.

Police said just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday they were called to the Belmont Beverage on east Pettit Avenue. The 911 caller was taking a deposit to the bank when he was approached by the suspect who was armed with a taser.

The victim, Scott Witmer, told police he drove from the Belmont Beverage on Anthony and McKinnie to the store on Pettit, and was going to the Chase bank in the nearby plaza.

When Witmer parked his car and started walking toward the building, he was approached by a black man with a taser and ordered to hand over his deposit. The suspect got into a black hatchback, possibly with out of state plates, and took off.

Witmer also told police there was another man in the car. He described him as black, with a bigger build and wearing a hat.

The man who approached Witmer is described as a black man, about 5'8, with a skinny build, and no older than his mid 30s. He was wearing a blue bandana below his eyes and a black hoodie.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.
