FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Police say a man who threatened to shoot police after he barricaded himself inside a Fort Wayne apartment tonight has been found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sgt. Chris Felton says officers responded to West Wind Apartments on Point West Drive at 7:52 p.m. after receiving reports of a man barricaded inside an apartment.
Felton says the man was threatening to shoot officers and vehicles and "was talking very wildly."
Police summoned its Crisis Response Team to attempt to bring the man out peacefully. Officers also evacuated neighboring apartments.
Felton says the man wouldn't cooperate or talk to officers and refused to come out of the apartment.
"At one point the male started firing shots inside the apartment," Felton said. "The specialty team deployed tear gas to try and get the male to stop shooting. He was shooting in random directions in other departments."

Afraid someone might get shot, Felton says officers entered the apartment and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He says detectives are investigating what happened beforehand and why the man was acting that way.
Evacuated residents have been allowed to return home.
