ORLAND, Ind. (WFFT) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead and a 14-year-old boy is critically injured after a car crash in Steuben County Thursday evening.
Steuben County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at 5:23 p.m. on County Road 675 West, about a half-mile south of State Road 120.
Deputies say a red 2012 Lexus IS2 was southbound at a high rate of speed when the 16-year-old driver lost control of the Lexus on a small hill.
The vehicle crossed the northbound lane and struck a tree head-on, splitting the vehicle in two.
Deputies say the driver and a 14-year-old passenger were both ejected.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators say it's unknown whether either teen was wearing a seatbelt.
The road was clear and dry at the time of the crash.
The names of both boys are being withheld until the family can be notified.
