FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Fort Wayne Police have dropped a murder charge against one man and arrested a second man in connection with a deadly shooting last week.
James Hines, 53, died of a gunshot wound after he was found lying on Lewis Street around 11:20 p.m. on Sept. 22.
Fort Wayne Police charged 56-year-old Tommy Lyles with murder on Tuesday but tonight police say he has been exonerated, released from jail, and the charge has been dismissed.
Police say they continued to investigate and tonight arrested 59-year-old Eric D. Tate using updated evidence and the help of witnesses.
Tate was arrested Wednesday night at the Sunoco gas station at U.S. 30 and Interstate 469.
He was arrested without incident and booked on a charge of murder.
