One dead, one hurt in Waterloo crash

Police responded around 6:45 p.m. at CR 16 and IN-427 in Waterloo. Phyllis Reardon, 88, was westbound on CR 16 and failed to stop at a stop sign.

WATERLOO, Ind. (WFFT)- An 88-year-old woman is dead, and a man was hurt after a crash Wednesday night in DeKalb County. 

Police responded around 6:45 p.m. at CR 16 and IN-427 in Waterloo. Phyllis Reardon, 88, was westbound on CR 16 and failed to stop at a stop sign. 

John Bassett, 40, entered the intersection and was hit by Reardon, sending his truck off the road. Reardon's SUV spun around and stopped in the middle of the road. 

Bassett was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Police said he's in stable condition. Reardon died at the scene. 

Both vehicles were totaled.
