FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — Authorities say the man responsible for robbing a southwest Fort Wayne bank last week has been found, but he is in the hospital.
The Fort Wayne Police Department announced that 49-year-old Bart B. Ely, the suspect in a robbery at Old National Bank in Covington Plaza last Friday, is in critical condition in an Ohio hospital "due to self-inflicted injuries."
The robbery happened just after 11 a.m. on June 17 and witnesses told investigators that a skinny white man, later identified as Ely, wearing dark clothing and a face mask passed a note to the teller demanding money without showing a weapon.
Ely then allegedly left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and police were unable to track him down until Thursday.
Police have not indicated what Ely's injuries are at this time.
