Officer identified in Wednesday morning shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - One of the officers in an officer-involved shooting in Fort Wayne has been identified.

Officer Christopher Hawthorne is one of 2 officers on paid administrative leave after 26 year-old Shaquille Kelly died after being shot early Wednesday morning.

It all started around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday when officers patrolling the area of Baxter and Reed Streets heard gunshots in the area. They then tried to stop a car in the area but the reason for the stop still isn't clear.

The incident is still under investigation.
