NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WFFT) — Police say a man is in jail in connection to the death of his toddler daughter that happened late last week.
Just after 1 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, officers with the New Haven Police Department were called to Lutheran Hospital regarding a 17-month-old girl who arrived after being transported from a fire station.

Police say the child was taken to the fire station by 31-year-old Michael T. Allen after he allegedly found her unconscious.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office says a few hours after being transported to the hospital, at about 4 a.m., the child was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Kaivonni Lynn Vachon of Fort Wayne.
The cause of death was determined by the coroner to be blunt force injuries of the abdomen and the manner of death is homicide.
Kaivonni is the seventh homicide in Allen County for 2021.
Allen is facing felony charges of neglect of a dependent causing death and aggravated battery.
He is behind held at the Allen County Jail pending an initial hearing Monday afternoon.
This incident is being investigated by the New Haven Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and Allen County Coroner’s Office.
