FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- The NCAA has announced it will heavily restrict fans from attending national basketball tournament games because of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, a decision expected to impact two regional tournaments in Fort Wayne.
The NCAA posted a statement by NCAA President Mark Emmert that says he decided to conduct upcoming championship events, including Division 1 men's and women's basketball tournaments, with only essential staff and limited family attendance.
The announcement is expected to drastically reduce attendance to the NCAA Division 1 women's regional on March 28th and 30th.
It could also affect the NCAA Division 3 men's tournament in Fort Wayne on March 20th and 21st, which city officials predicted would bring in more than $600,000 in revenue.
FOX 55 NEWS has reached out to local city and coliseum officials for comment. So far everyone has deferred to the NCAA statement.
