HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WFFT) — Police say a motorcyclist is dead after a highway crash late Sunday night in Huntington County.
On Sunday just before 10:30 p.m., Huntington County dispatchers say they received a 911 call from an off-duty Columbia City Police Officer regarding a crash he saw on U.S. Highway 24.
The Huntington Police Department responded to the crash on U.S. 24 just west of North Jefferson Street and arrived shortly after the call was made.
When officers arrived they said a motorcycle had crashed into a vehicle and tried to help the motorcyclist until the fire department and EMS made it to the scene.
Just after 11 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead after life-saving measures by first responders were unsuccessful.
The victim was identified by the Huntington County Coroner’s Office as 25-year-old Cale S. Hindman.
His cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma and the manner of death is an accident.
Police say Hindman was going west on U.S. 24 from State Road 5 when he rear-ended another vehicle that was also going west on U.S. 24.
The crash remains under investigation,
