WATERLOO, Ind. (WFFT) — A truck driver is dead after an early morning highway crash in DeKalb County Friday.
Just before 3 a.m. Friday deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department responded to a crash on Interstate 69 Southbound at the County Road 28 overpass.
Deputies say the semi being driven by 62-year-old William Modzelewski of Wyandotte, Michigan was traveling southbound on I-69 when his truck went off the roadway for an unknown reason.
Investigators say the semi drove through the median without striking the cable barrier.
Then it traveled through the impact barrels in front of the County Road 28 overpass bridge's support beam.
Modzelewski's semi crashed into the bridge's support beam head-on and he was trapped in the truck's cab.
Investigators say Modzelewski was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained from the impact.
