FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- A New Haven man has pleaded guilty to drunk driving charges in connection to a 2019 crash that killed an Ivy Tech baseball player and injured three others.
The Allen County Prosecutor's Office says Nicholas A. Goyal, 38, entered a guilty plea Thursday to operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing a death and three counts of criminal recklessness.
The crash happened on Executive and Coliseum boulevards on Oct. 19, 2019.
Authorities say 21-year-old Andrew Carpenter and friends were getting food when it happened.
Carpenter died 10 days later from his injuries.
His former coach and teammates told FOX 55 News last year that his passing brought them closer together. His number has been retired.
The prosecutor's office says as part of the plea they will recommend a sentence of six years in prison with four years probation.
Goyal, who had a previous OWI conviction, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 26th.
