HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WFFT) - Vera Johnson is celebrating her 100th birthday.
"It's fabulous that I can have all these people who are relatives or friends you know, part of my extended family. It's really exciting," she said.
She has 14 children, 35 grandchildren and 44 great grand children.
For the most part, her family and God take up much of the room in her heart. Her husband passed away in 2007. They were married 62 years.
"We had a long life together. I guess the Lord kept us together. He kept us alive, and we just got along fine and had a lot of family we had to do for," she explained.
She spent most of her life taking care of the family and making sure they knew the importance of having faith, which is one of the most memorable lessons for her son Darwin Johnson.
"She taught me that it was important to go to church. She taught us early on. She would take us to church even though she couldn't drive. Well, dad would take us to church a lot, but she always made sure we got there," he said.
Her advice for living a long life:
"Follow the path of the Lord, and do what you're supposed to do and you'll be fine."
