FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Business owners and homeowners alike are growing more concerned with the spread of COVID-19 and local cleaning companies are responding to their calls.
Lance Diffendarfer with Paul Davis Restoration says all cleaning companies, including his, are seeing an increase in calls from people inquiring about their services. "There will come a time there’s probably too many jobs for everybody in town," Diffendarfer said. "Now the calls are at least doubling coming in, as far as the number of people who are just wanting to find out more."

Maidpro Owner Kathryn Guderian says they’re seeing more calls as well.
"For the businesses, we’ve really stepped it up. I would say, probably, if before our percentage was five percent, it’s probably now 30 to 40 percent."
Businesses want to make sure their workplace is clean before employees return to work. Homeowners want to make sure they aren’t spreading COVID-19 around their home. They’re preparing for that time when the requests increase.
"I think a lot of people are just kind of taking the wait and see," Diffendarfer said. We’ll see here for another week or so and then I think that’s when, especially if we’re serious about getting people back to work, then I think that’s what’s really going to be empotis behind this."
While it may not seem like it's an essential business, Guderian says they’re vital to keeping people healthy.
"I’m sure that’s one of the reasons why the state of Indiana has deemed us as essential at this time because we are helping people that can’t clean for themselves," Guderian said.
So, if you want to clean your home yourself, the pros say use a cleaner that kills germs as best as possible
All-purpose cleaners like Spic-and-Span, Lysol Wipes and Disinfecting Comet spray.
You want to clean the areas you touch a lot.
That includes door knobs, phones, computers, drawer handles, refrigerator, sink faucets etc.
Finally, you want to make sure you leave the disinfectant on the surface for the suggested time by the manufacturer, usually 10 minutes, to properly kill the germs.
If you want to go with a professional company, both Diffendarfer and Guderian agree that you should go with a company you know and trust, to help avoid being scammed by people who are just trying to take advantage of a bad situation.
