Large fire reported in downtown Butler, Indiana

Eight people treated for injuries following fire in downtown Butler, Indiana.

BUTLER, Ind (WFFT) - A large fire is burning in the heart of downtown Butler. 

Roger Powers with Delkab Homeland Security said there were 13 fire departments on the scene and two were from Ohio. 

An officer with the Butler Police Department said 6 people were taken to area hospitals to be treated for injuries  Additionally, two police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation.  

Residents were jumping from the second floor to escape the fire.

Additional fire departments have also responded to the scene to assist with water delivery to the fire scene on the 100 block of South Broadway Street.

The Red Cross was on the scene to help residents who have been displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it started in the basement and made it's way up to the second floor.
