FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Kroger kicked off their annual Zoo Day Friday ahead of the opening of the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.

The team from the Kroger district office as well as zoo officials were on hand Friday to start the charity event. This is the 27th year Kroger and the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo have teamed up. In that time, Kroger has raised over $2 million, and in 2018 alone, they raised over $40,000 for the zoo.

Kroger district manager Chris Gomez says a fundraiser this long running and successful is due to the community.

The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo opens for the season Saturday. It will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., but you need to be there by 5:00 p.m. if you want to get in before doors close. Tickets are $15 for adults 19 and over and $10 for people 18 and under.
