FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Keeping families close when they need each other most. That's the goal of Ronald McDonald's House Charities of Northeast Indiana.
Thankfully, The Ronald McDonald's House at Parkview was there when Ashli Pershing needed it.
"It let me be there and be with her and have access to her 24 hours a day. They also supported us in numerous ways through providing meals. They always have meals. There's always food in the fridge there. There's laundry service so I could wash my clothes there," Ashli Pershing said.
Ashli Pershing and her family were there 150 days for her baby Karli who was one pound and three ounces at birth.
"We went through a big roller coaster of life and if she was going to survive. Now we're here and just thankful for where we are. Ronald McDonald was such a big part in being able to handle what was given to us,"she explained.
The people you see play a role too. They are cycling for a purpose helping families who find themselves in need of The Ronald McDonald House.
The director of development and communications, Teresa White said to be the first event of Kickstart Fort Wayne is a big deal.
"It's such a great way to get out and enjoy our city, spend time with friends and family, enjoy a beautiful day like we're getting today. If you can support a non profit like The Ronald McDonald House that's a great thing to do too," White said.
"The donations and the support from the community supporting the Ronald Mcdonald House Charities support all these great things that we do, so people can stay at the Ronald McDonald house, and focus on the most important thing of all which is their kid in the hospital," Ronald McDonald said.
This ride puts the Ronald Mcdonald's House Charities of Northeast Indiana closer to their goal of helping families into the next year free of charge to them, so they can be there with their loved ones.
If you couldn't make it out to Kreager Park for this biking event, the next will be April 30.
The city is hosting a grand opening celebration for the Trek the Trails Series at the Barn at Eagle Marsh.
