FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- On Thursday the Indiana Democrats kicked off their American Rescue Plan Tour in front of the courthouse in Fort Wayne.
They’re looking to educate Hoosiers on how President Biden’s COVID-19 relief plan will impact them.
The city of Fort Wayne will be receiving about $50 million.
Mayor Tom Henry said he wants to use the money to invest in small businesses, education, childcare and broadband access.
All of these are within the guidelines of the federal government.
“They sent us part of the money, and now they’re telling us how they would like to have it invested,” Henry said. “But we’ll be putting together a committee to even get more specific. Broadband application is one thing. Well, ‘how are you going to do that?’ So we’re gonna try to identify certain steps within that broadband application to determine where that money should be spent.”
The state of Indiana is receiving almost $6 billion through this program.
Allen County is getting $73 million, and school districts in the county are receiving a total of about $130 million.
