FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — As people prepare to hit the roads ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, the Indiana Department of Transportation is warning drivers to keep an eye out for construction.
With construction season ramping up, INDOT says drivers will find work zones in every corner of the state.
INDOT says it may pull back cones on some smaller construction zones over the next few days when crews aren’t working.
But larger bridge projects like those on I-469 won’t be going anywhere.
Regardless of traffic, INDOT asks drivers to err on the side of caution when around construction.
“If you do come across a work zone that we’re not able to pull the cones or barriers away, please slow down and obey those posted speed limit signs," said Public Relations Director Hunter Petroviak. "It might seem inconvenient, but it really is actually shown to only add about a minute on your travel time to get where you’re going.”
For people who are planning to drive through Indiana to spots they’re not overly familiar with, INDOT recommends checking statewide construction zones on their website.
