FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - On Thursday, FOX 55 spoke with IHSAA commissioner Bobby Cox, who says he's "cautiously optimistic" that high school sports will be able to return this fall.
Cox says the association lost over a million dollars in revenue with the cancelation of this year's boys basketball state tournament, and spring sports.
After making some significant cuts to the budget, Cox says they have enough money to sustain them through next school year, but no sports in the fall and winter could be catastrophic for the IHSAA.
As of now, the plan is to return to competition in August, but Cox says the association is prepared to make adjustments based on recommendations from Governor Eric Holcomb and health officials.
The IHSAA announced Wednesday that school-sponsored athletic activities, including conditioning and skill development, will be allowed to resume on July 1.
