HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WFFT) - Officers wear vests for protection, but their canines need protection, too.

Zeek, Huntington County Sheriff's Department canine, received a new bullet and stab-proof vest from Vested Interest in K9s, a Massachusetts based non-profit organization.

Zeek's handler, Deputy Dave McVoy, says the vest covers more of Zeek's vital organs.

In wake of last month's fatal shooting of Fishers Police Department K9, Harlej, McVoy says the vest delivery "hits home."
