FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Horizon Christian Academy has decided to move from its current location on Wells Street to Abundant Life Church.
"They only gave the kids the letters, this time. There was no emails, there was no phone blast so there is not a guarantee that all parents know at this point that that letter was sent out," said parent Ms. Johnson.
In a letter sent to home to parents, Horizon said, "Due to several issues including the pressure of another buyer, the high cost of the pursuit to purchase the property and obstacles put in places regarding voucher funding from the state we were unable to complete the transaction."
FOX 55's Melea VanOstrand went to Horizon Christian Academy for a comment on the situation but was not able to get a comment. However parents have a lot to say.
"My kids have been going there for many years now. I liked the school when they first started but it just seems like they're starting to go downhill," said Johnson.
Johnson has 4 children who attend the school. Why such a sudden announcement and move? According to the letter, the current property will be bought by Wallen Baptist Church and that the building needs to be vacated before January 21st.
"I'm trying to transfer them somewhere else, however, now they're giving me a hard time with getting my kids records. The schools I'm trying to transfer them to have contacted horizon and horizon is telling them they're in the process of moving and ti will be hard to access the children's files," said Johnson.
In the meantime, the school will have e-learning days Monday through Wednesday January 14-16 with classes resuming the next day on the 17th.
"They should've had the opportunity to make some sort of arrangements for their children. Some of these parents don't have older kids. All they have is kindergartners, first-graders. They need to make arrangements for their kids to be someplace else while they're at work and they're not considering the parents or students for that matter, " said Johnson.
Current bus and van stops will stay the same. There will also be a stop near the Wells St. property for students who usually walk to school. School hours will stay the same.
