FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) — A Fort Wayne high school that originally planned to hold an in-person graduation for its seniors has now scrapped those plans amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a Facebook post, Homestead High School Principal Park Ginder said because of Governor Eric Holcomb's latest executive order which created Stage 4.5 of the Back On Track plan the school can no longer have its graduation on July 8 and 9.
Ginder said there will be no rescheduling of the graduation either.
Executive Order 20-35 requires events to have a maximum of 250 people with social distancing.
"Please know that we are incredibly proud of you, and will follow your future success," Ginder said in the post. " We regret that we will not have the opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments.
Initially, Indiana was slated to begin Stage 5 on July 4 which would have allowed events to have more than 250 people with social distancing in place.
It is unclear if the school will host a virtual graduation or a drive-by parade.
